Data collection and analytics
EAR evaluations are focused on topics, which are not possible by single national reports like supranational comparisons.
EAR will not act as a competitor to National Arthroplasty Registers but will add an extra level of evaluations.
The evaluations are based on the National Register datasets.
Basic for the evaluations are the EFORT minimal datasets, which are included in all national datasets. Every National Register is free to add content on their national data collection.
EFORT
Minimal Dataset: THA primary (PDF)
EFORT Minimal Dataset: THA revision (PDF)
EFORT Minimal Dataset: THK primary (PDF)
EFORT Minimal Dataset: THK revision (PDF)
Guidelines for EFORT Minimal datasets:
- The patient has to be identified clearly to match primary and revision surgery. This could be done by a unique personal code, which is stable for the lifetime of the persons (national or European medical codes,.) or an algorithm including personal data creating this code.
- Bipolar and partial prosthesis are facultative, but recommended. It is recommended to use a standardised documentation in these implants too. Parts of the forms referring specifically to these implants can be recognised by smaller letters.
- Implants have to be tracked clearly.
EAR is recommending a standardized way based on recent technology.
A standardized list covering the entire market should be set up including
- Article Number (EAN - Code)
- Lot number
- A description of the implant based on ISO-Norm 7206
The remark "databank" in the forms is referring to this system.
The technical procedures of implant tracking are defined by the National Arthroplasty Register.
Evaluations are done exclusively on request of the EARB, supported technically by the central server and evaluation unit located at IT-Campus in Halle/Saale, Germany.
Any publication is done by the EARB.
Owner of national datasets are exclusively the National Arthroplasty Registers.
The EARB is the only Board, which is authorized to give access to datasets.
Anybody who is interested to do research based on EAR-aggregated datasets is invited to send a proposal to the EARB.
Please contact the EAR-Coordinator for
